You walk into 2120 on a Sunday morning at around 7:30 on the first day of spring break. As your waiting for the challenge to start you glance around and exchange awkward glances with 47 other students. Little did you know that these 47 other students would be the people you will call your teammates, compete against, and at the end of the challenge spend the entire week with, with unforgettable memories. In the end for many its not about who won the student challenge and was crowned ''championship team'' but about the friendships and memories that were created and the unreal experience created in 8 days.
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) student challenge is an amazing opportunity for students in grade s11 and 12 to take part in. I first heard about the awesome program back in grade 10 and silly as i was and didnt read the poster i asked to sign up and when i found out i was a year too young i was disappointed. In September 2012, i was an eleventh grader so i took the opportunity to take part in the challenge, after hours of completeing paperwork and asking people for references i handed in my application and hoped everyday to get accepted. Before winter break started i got my acceptance letter to the program and was so excited, it felt so unreal to be accepted and all i wanted to do was scream. Fast forward a thousand days of waiting and on March 17 i got to experience my first day of the VPD student challenge.
The student challenge was by far the highlight of my 2013 and nothing can ever replace the unreal experience i had. Yes, it was for sure the hardest thing i have to say that i ever completed due to all the physical work and all the teamwork that we had. All those punishments made me scared of ruining something so i know i had to take it seriously, all those late nights at camp talking and making memories. The ups and the downs that i and we all had, but in the end it was an amazing experience and im so glad and proud that i took part in this once in a lifetime experience. Those bruises and cuts will always remind me of my hard work.
